Preventing sensitive data loss is a complex issue. The scope alone covers many types of data with separate data owners, including anything from consumer personally-identifiable information to intellectual property to financial reports. It's not surprising then, that many technologies used to prevent data loss take on similar complexities in order to address the disparate data and ways it can be lost. But has anyone asked the question: is the level of technical complexity really justified? In this presentation, we will answer this question as we identify technology integrations required to complete a DLP solution, compare and contrast common DLP architectures and uncover ways to simplify DLP.
In this session, we will review a comprehensive technical requirements list created and improved over the past five years. Since much of this content has been taken directly from actual requirements lists of data loss prevention (DLP) projects, the content is not only current, it's extremely relevant. Through this review, we will call attention to the most critical technical requirements, address key industry-related requirements and identify common pitfalls in creating meaningful and successful data protection initiatives.

Understanding the Limitations of Data Loss Prevention - June 21, 2012, 9-10AM Pacific // 12-1PM Eastern
Data Loss Prevention (DLP) enforcement technologies come in many flavors, each with its inherent characteristics--and many that often result in DLP coverage holes or other limitations. This session will help attendees better understand the limits of DLP by reviewing each type of DLP solution, addressing limitations to ultimately aid in the DLP technology selection process.
